Recently, the 4.95 MWp industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaic project of Loudi Liangang Electromechanical Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., undertaken by Midea New Energy, has been successfully connected to the grid and put into operation. Located in Loudi, Hunan Province, Liangang was put into production in 1958. As one of the core backbone enterprises of Hunan Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd., it boasts a complete set of modern process equipment covering coking, sintering, smelting, steel rolling, processing and distribution. It is a major global manufacturing base for medium and thin-gauge high-end heat-treated steel plates and China’s largest supplier of grain-oriented silicon steel substrates. The enterprise has been awarded titles including National High-Tech Enterprise and Hunan Provincial Specialized, Refined, Differential and Innovative Enterprise. Catering to the green transformation needs of this time-honored steel enterprise, the project overcame construction schedule and environmental challenges through refined construction and efficient development, setting an exemplary benchmark for traditional heavy industry enterprises to revitalize idle rooftop resources, cut energy costs and achieve low-carbon upgrading.

Sited at the Liangang plant in Loudi, Hunan, the project leverages 36,000 square meters of idle rooftops within the factory compound. A total of 6,881 pieces of 645 Wp high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon PV modules are installed, paired with 250 kW/320 kW inverters. Adopting a full self-consumption model, the system precisely matches the high power demand of steel production, minimizing the enterprise’s reliance on grid electricity and reducing power expenses.

The construction phase encountered multiple challenges. With a tight construction schedule overlapping the summer rainy season, the effective operation window was extremely limited. Coupled with the large project scale and complex on-site coordination requirements, the project demanded top-tier overall management and construction expertise. Faced with these hurdles, the project team adhered to refined management principles, arranged material reserves in advance to fully mitigate supply chain disruption risks. An innovative three-dimensional construction approach was deployed, featuring simultaneous works across multiple rooftops and streamlined multi-process operations to maximize utilization of the limited working hours. Meanwhile, robust capital and on-site support mechanisms were established to ensure efficient coordination of labor, machinery and materials. The team successfully resolved construction bottlenecks and delivered grid connection on schedule, demonstrating solid project execution capabilities.
In terms of benefits, the project delivers remarkable power generation and carbon reduction outcomes over its 25-year lifecycle. Over the 25-year operation period, it will generate a total of 113.6752 million kWh of electricity, with an annual power output of 4.5470 million kWh. Environmentally, the project will save 34,000 tons of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 93,900 tons throughout its lifecycle. It effectively helps the enterprise reduce production carbon emissions, optimize its energy consumption mix, and realize both economic and ecological benefits.
The successful grid connection of the Liangang PV project marks a typical practice of green transformation for heavy industry enterprises, and validates Midea New Energy’s capability to deliver PV projects under complex working conditions.
