Control Theory

Hiconics manufactures two models of four quadrant MV VFDs for use with mining hoists. The HIVERT-YVF (for asynchronous motor) and HIVERT-TVF (for synchronous motor) are both composed of a transformer, a power cell and a control system (including controller, I/O board and HMI). When the VFD applies for motor power exceeding 1800kw, the system will add start cabinet to the supply.

 

 

 

Power Cell

The power cell input connects with the reactor and the transformer secondary winding three-phase low voltage output. When the VFD power is below 1800kw, the power cell adds cushion protection to limit pre-charge current and protect the IGBT input. When the VFD power goes above 1800kw, the system will cancel the power cell cushion and the start cabinet will limit the pre-charge current and protect the IGBT input. The power cell and reactor directly connect. The HIVERT-Y(T)VF is 100% rated power energy feedback capacity. The power cell uses a IGBT rectifier which inspects the power cell input voltage amplitude and phase. It then controlls the phase difference between the IGBT and the power cell input voltage to determine the direction betweenthe  grid and the power cell. If the power cell phase is front, the power cell will return power to grid. Otherwise, the grid will send power to the power cell. Electricity power is decided by power cell voltage. If the rectifier is acting as power, the phase difference will be from power voltage value and actual voltage value, PID adjustment.

The HIVERT-Y(T)VF is  a new Hiconics product used for synchronous and asynchronous AC drive motors. It makes use of the most up to date power cell connection technology, vector control, inverter energy feedback technololy, all in one inproved HMI operation system. This allows for higher reliability and excellent performance. It is exclusively for users who want to equip their motor with four quandrant, energy feedback, low speed, high torque drive. It is currently widely used in Chinese mining, often with motors running hoists and conveyors.

•Control theory

•Start cabinet

When the VFD applies for motor power exceeding 1800kw, the system will add start cabinet in the supply. The start cabinet can restrain the exciting current when the transformer is turned on to allow power cabinet protection. It is also possible to simultaneou charge to the DC capacitor power cell. The start cabinet is equipped with start resistance which reduces the rush current when the drive is turned on. Different power VFDs will use different start resistances and after pre-charge the VCB will short circuit the resistance.

 

•Transformer

A dry type isolation transformer, using a air forced cooling system, is the primary start connection. It allows a connection to the grid or start cabinet. A secondary winding is extended triangle connection, there is phase difference between windings, through reactor to supply power for the power cells.

The transformer is equipped with a temperature controller, which the control system uses to inspect the transformer temperature. When the winding temperature is high, the system alarm will be triggered and start the bottom fans. 

 

•Power cell

The power cell input connects with the reactor and the transformer secondary winding three-phase low voltage output. When the VFD power drops below 1800kw, the power cell adds cushion protection to limit the pre-charge current and protect the IGBT input. When the VFD power rises above 1800kw, the cancel power cell cushion and start cabinet will limit pre-charge current and protect IGBT input. The power cell and reactor will then directly connect. The HIVERT-Y(T)VF product is 100% rated power energy feedback capacity. The power cell uses an IGBT rectifier which inspects the power cell input voltage amplitude and phase. It controlls the phase difference between the IGBT and the power cell input voltage to deterine the direction between the grid and the power cell. If the power cell phase is front, the power cell will return the power to grid, otherwise, the grid will send power to the power cell. Electricity power is decided by the power cell voltage. If the rectifier side is acting as a power source the phase difference will be from power voltage value and actual voltage value, PID adjustment.

 

•Control system

The control system is composed of a controller, an HMI, and an I/O board. The HIVERT-YVF uses rotor with speed feedback vector control technology. The rotor magnetic field positioning coordinate divides the motor rotor current  into exciting current and torque current. Keep exciting current iM invariant, control torque current controlls the motor torque. Motor speed uses close loop control. When running, the set speed and actual speed variance is adjustable by PID to make iT. iM and iT with actual feedback exciting current iM and torque current iT, normally after PI adjustment, will make uM,uT, after vector control, it will make voltage drive signal.
